Born in Brazil, Rejane is a tutor, choreographer and director working extensively in Ballet and Contemporary dance. She began her training in classical ballet in Rio de Janeiro, at the age of nine at a higher level at Maria Olenewa State Dance School (Municipal Ballet of Rio de Janeiro affiliated School), based on Vaganova Methodology, graduating in 1997. Rejane was awarded a scholarship to study at Centro Pro-Danza in Cuba, directed by Laura Alonso. While in Havana, she performed with Ballet Laura Alonso to gain professional experience as an apprentice. She then moved to London in 1999 to study classical ballet at London Studio Centre, where she was awarded a scholarship. Later, she continued with teacher training in ballet technique with the Royal Academy of Dance under the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA).
During her 20 years as a UK-based dance artist, she worked with many choreographers such as Gary Clarke, Wayne Sleep, Mark Short, Boris Storojkov, Mark Baldwin, Jean Abreu, Everaldo Pereira, Dora Frankel, Rosie Heafford and others. Throughout her career, she travelled to work in many countries, such as Russia, Cuba, Greece, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland and Australia. She performed and taught for acclaimed institutions such as British Museum, City Academy, The Place, Saddler’s Wells, Cochrane Theatre and Channel 4.
Rejane has taught for all ages and abilities, including professional ballet dancers from the English National Ballet. During her time in Europe as a teacher, she taught in the private and community sectors. She also worked with groups of children and adults with disabilities and over 60s, winning a special Award,” Can Do” from Tower Hamlet Council, for her well-being educational work through dance. On her latest trip to Russia, where she taught at the World Congress in Dance Research, Rejane was awarded for her contribution to arts and heritage from the International Dance Council-Unesco. Since relocating to Adelaide in 2019, Rejane continues to teach, choreograph and direct her institution Dance Alive as well as a freelance guest teacher.
